The seat next to me.
It felt like any other boring Tuesday morning in form class. Then the teacher moved the seating plan, and suddenly he was sitting next to me. He’s one of the popular boys, really good at sports, someone I’d only seen from afar. My heart started beating faster when he turned and said a simple “Hi,” with a friendly smile. We started talking a little each day, mostly about homework or silly things. But soon, I found myself looking forward to seeing him more than anything else at school. I got butterflies in my stomach whenever he laughed or accidentally brushed his arm against mine. Could someone like him ever like someone like me back? It felt confusing but also exciting, like maybe something amazing was about to happen. Having good friends to share these secret feelings with made it a little less scary.
A Thumbs Up.
Every Tuesday afternoon, Yara had music class, which was usually her favourite subject. But this week, they had to perform a small piece in front of everyone. Yara loved playing guitar at home, but playing for the class made her incredibly nervous. Her hands felt shaky just thinking about it during the lunch break. Her friend Daan noticed she was quiet and asked what was wrong. Yara explained her fear, and Daan reminded her how well she played that song last week. He even suggested they quickly practice together in the empty practice room for ten minutes. Taking deep breaths like Daan suggested, Yara played through her piece while he listened patiently. When it was her turn in class, she still felt nervous, but Daan gave her a thumbs-up, which helped. She played the song almost perfectly and felt a huge wave of relief and pride afterwards.egen
More than mates?
He’s become one of my best mates over the last few months. We hang out loads, text all the time, and it just feels easy being around him. Lately though, things have started to feel a bit different, a bit confusing inside my head. I’ve noticed I really care what he thinks, and I feel protective of him. Sometimes when we’re joking around, I get this weird flip in my stomach – is this just friendship? I’ve always thought I only liked girls, so these new feelings are strange and make me question things. Some of my other friends don’t quite get our friendship, but a couple of the girls are really cool about it. They just say be happy and don’t worry too much about labels. Maybe they’re right; figuring things out takes time, and our connection feels special whatever it is.
